Loyola Baseball Squad Drops Both Games in Double-Header

MOBILE, Ala. – The Loyola University New Orleans baseball team lost both games in today’s double-header against the University of Mobile as the Rams completed the three game sweep. The Wolfpack lost 2-11 in game one and 0-4 in game two.

Matthew Guerry (1-6) had a solid outing for the ‘Pack on the mound in the double-header finale, but picked up the loss. Guerry pitched eight innings and gave up four earned runs on eight hits, striking out six and walking six.

Mobile’s Blake Hanson (1-1) earned his first win of the season, holding the Wolfpack scoreless on three hits over seven innings. Hanson walked three and struck out six.

Mobile scored runs in the first, second, fifth, and seventh inningS, taking the game 4-0. The Wolfpack amassed six hits and left eight runners on base.

Anthony Asta went 2-4 in the game. In addition, both Evan Turkish and Harold Toscano finished 1-3.

In the opening contest the Wolfpack scored a run in the first and last inning. Brandon Snow led off the game with a home-run over the left field fence on a 2-1 count. It was his second homer of the season and third in his career.

Harold Toscano led off in the seventh with an infield single. After Slade Sanders walked and the runners advanced to second and third on a balk, Bradley Brunet drove in Toscano with a grounder to short.

Snow finished the game 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI, while Toscano went 2-3 with one run scored.

George Smith (1-6) started on the mound for the eighth time this season. Smith picked up the loss after surrendering six earned runs on six hits over 2.1 innings. Jeffrey Castille replaced Smith and went 1.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on on three hits. Finally, Jared Belmonte saw 2.1 innings of relief work, giving up one earned run on three hits, striking out two.

Ryan Hines (4-4), allowed just one earned run on four hits over five innings, striking out six. Ryne Phillips powered the offense in game one, going 3-4 with three runs scored and three RBI’s.

The Wolfpack move to 11-18 overall and 1-14 in SSAC play. Mobile jumps to 14-13 and 8-6 in conference play.

Next, the Wolfpack return home to Segnette Field for a three game series with conference foe Auburn Montgomery on March 23 & 24.
