WESTWEGO, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans baseball squad fell 17-7 to the visiting Southern Jaguars this evening at Segnette Field. The Wolfpack drop to 9-9 on the year as the Jags jump to 5-3.
Karson Cullins had a productive night at the plate, going 2-4 with two RBI’s. Both Evan Turkish and Anthony Asta went 2-5 with one run scored each, with Turkish adding a RBI to his name.
In addition, freshman Nevin Brown highlighted the ninth inning with a pinch-hit three run home run to deep left field. It was the first of his career.
The Wolfpack pitched by committee in this evening’s game as Trey Campeaux (3-1), Jeffrey Castille, Jonathan Jeanice, George Smith, Michael Pfister, Jared Belmonte, and Justin Romaire all saw action. Senior George Smith was the highlight of the group, pitching 2.1 innings, recording three strikeouts, and not surrendering a single hit. Campeaux was tagged with the loss going two innings and giving up four runs on three hits.
Caleb Hatcher and DeMario Ellis led the offense for the Jags. Hatcher recorded four RBI’s and a run scored on a 2-5 day. Ellis went 2-5 with three runs scored and three RBI’s. Pedro Fargas (1-1) earned the win after lasting five innings and allowing three earned runs on five hits.
Loyola returns to action in a three game set starting with a single game Friday at 6 p.m. at Segnette Field, when they host conference foe William Carey. The contest will be followed with a double header on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
