Loyola baseball swept by Shorter

Rome, Ga- Shorter University completed a three game sweep of Loyola University New Orleans with a pair of victories Saturday afternoon at the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex.
In the first game, the Wolfpack overcame a 5-1 deficit with a four run sixth inning to tie the game. Shorter walked the first four Loyola hitters that came to the plate in the frame. After a Wolfpack strikeout, Evan Turkish lifted a sacrifice fly to pull Loyola to 5-3. Taylor Domengeaux singled to score Ryan Scott. Shorter’s Stephen Adkins had an errant pickoff throw that allowed Karson Cullins to score the tying run.
Loyola took the lead in the top of the seventh as leadoff man Phillip Cazayoux doubled to start the inning. Scott pushed Cazayoux across with a single to right to give the Wolfpack the advantage.
The Hawks would respond in their half of the seventh as Kurtis Robinson doubled down the right field line to score two runs to give Shorter the victory.
Reliever Blake Chapman earned the win in relief giving up one run on three hits and striking out three in two innings of work.
Domengeaux took the loss for Loyola. He went the distance and gave up seven runs, six earned and struck out three.
In game two, Shorter’s Tim Day threw a one hit shutout as the Hawks downed the Wolfpack 10-0 for the series sweep.
Matthew Johnson went 3 for 3 and Jordan Hollis and Lou Amargo each had two hits.
Loyola travels to Baton Rouge on March 16 to face Southern University. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
