NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Loyola University New Orleans baseball team (4-0) will square off against Tougaloo College (0-0) at Segnette Field in a double-header on Wednesday, with the first game starting at 3 p.m. The double-header is the last set of home games for the ‘Pack until they host Shorter on February 24.
Loyola head coach Gerald Cassard looks to continue his best start with the ‘Pack in his five years with the program. The ‘Pack last started 4-0 in 2000 after a four game sweep of Huntington College. Loyola leads the Wolfpack-Bulldogs overall series 24-1.
Taking the mound in game one will be Trey Campeaux followed by Jonathan Jeanice in game two. Campeaux pitched 3.1 innings in relief in the game one 5-4 walk-off victory against Central Christian. The senior surrendered just one earned run on four hits. Jeanice pitched the final two innings in last Friday’s game two double-header, helping the ‘Pack secure the 10-1 win. The sophomore allowed zero hits, two walks, one run scored, and recorded two strikeouts.
Greg Bellelo and Philip Cazayoux hope to continue their hot hitting into Wednesday’s double-header. Bellelo went 7-13 with four runs scored and two RBI’s in the four game series against Central Christian. Meanwhile, Cazayoux went 7-14 with four runs scored and seven RBI’s, and currently holds a four game hit streak.
Tougaloo will play their first match of the season tonight at Belhaven before traveling to Westwego. Last season, the Bulldogs finished 2-37 with their two wins coming against SSAC schools Spring Hill and Belhaven. Hitting and RBI leader from last year Dustin Porter returns to Tougaloo, along with the team’s ERA and strikeout leader John Alford.
