NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans baseball squad (11-21) will take a 3.5 hour trip on Wednesday to take on Louisiana State University Alexandria (9-17) in a double header. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m at Generals Field.
The Wolfpack return to action after a tough series loss to #13 Auburn Montgomery at Segnette, in which the game finale had to be settled in the 10th inning before the Warhawks escaped with the 5-4 victory.
Evan Turkish had a great outing at the plate in the series against Auburn Montgomery. The junior went 6-9 with one run scored and one RBI. Turkish now leads the team with a .318 batting average.
Game three witnessed Trey Campeaux (4-1) pitch a season high nine innings as he surrendered just three earned runs on nine hits, striking out three and walking three.
The ‘Pack are 5-12 lifetime against the LSU-Alexandria Generals. Last season, Loyola won 10-0 and 9-1 at home, but fell 3-8 and 0-1 at Generals Field. The Wolfpack can earn their first victory in Alexandria since their 8-5 win in March 2009.
Brandon Snow, Slade Sanders, and Jeffrey Castille were instrumental in the two wins against the Generals last season. Snow went 3-6 with three RBI’s and two runs scored, while Sanders hit 3-5 with two RBI’s and two runs scored. Castille earned the victory in the 10-0 game after he pitched a five inning shutout, allowed just four hits and struck out four.
LSU-Alexandria took the series against Houston-Victoria 3-1 this past weekend. Before that, the Generals had dropped seven of eight.
Seth Montz and Tid Hilger lead the Generals offensively. Montz has a team high .375 batting average, while Hilger has a team best 24 RBI’s along with his .325 batting average.
