NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans baseball squad (12-25) returns to action Tuesday evening at Lee-Hines Field against Southern University Baton Rouge (14-13). First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Wolfpack are coming off of a series loss to #8 Faulkner, in which they nearly upset the Eagles in game two of the three game set, falling 3-2.
Matthew Guerry pitched effectively on the mound in game two. Guerry was tagged for three earned runs on two hits, as he walked four and struck out two.
The ‘Pack and the Jaguars will play for the second time this season after they competed on February 28 at Segnette. Southern University took the contest 17-7.
In the game, Karson Cullins had a productive night at the plate as he went 2-4 with two RBI’s. In addition, Nevin Brown recorded his first career home run with a three-run blast to deep left field.
Last season, the ‘Pack traveled to Baton Rouge and lost 6-8 in a hard fought game. In the contest, Snow went 2-5 with one run scored, and Philip Cazayoux delivered one RBI and one run scored on a 1-4 day.
The Wolfpack last defeated the Jaguars April 13, 2010, when they won 8-5 at Southern.
The Jags are coming off of a 2-1 series win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Derrick Hopkins leads the team with a .380 batting average and 21 RBI’s. Southern is 4-7 at Lee-Hines Field this season.
