(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans broke two school records as they opened the outdoor season on Saturday at Tad Gormley Stadium in City Park.
The opening of the outdoor track and field season comes on the heels of a successful indoor season that saw the Wolf Pack set nine school records in their last two meets in Birmingham and Baton Rouge.
Denise Powell broke the school record for the 800 meter dash with a time of 2:28.64 which surpassed Calire Schomp’s school record of 2:29 set in 1996. She finished second in the race to Catherine Fakler of Xavier.
Taylor Rencher also set a school mark with a 16’6” jump in the women’s long jump. That marked was an inch further than the 16’5” school mark which was set by Raven Lewis in 2011.
Christina Guzman won the women’s shot put event with a 9.8 meter throw which topped the nine person field.
Sarah Tortorich finished with a time of 26.85 in the women’s 200 meter dash which was just .7 seconds short of Tulane’s Hilary Woods who won the race
On the men’s side, Paul Freese finished third in the Men’s 1500 meter race with a time of 4:20.04 which was just behind the times of Jonathan White and Adam Yohannan both of Tulane.
The men’s 4x400 team of Mario Ramirez, Piero Ramirez, William Maye, and Claude Nelson finished second in the race with a time of 3:41.53.
The Wolf Pack will be back in action for the Louisiana Classic Outdoor meet on March 15th and 16th in Lafayette, Louisiana.
