(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans men’s and women’s cross country teams return to campus this week as both teams begin practice on Tuesday, August 13th. Head Coach Andy Canegitta leads the Pack into action as he enters his sixth season at the helm of the cross country and track programs.
“I think both the men’s and women’s teams have immense potential this year and I am excited to get the season underway. Our student-athletes have put in work over the summer and they have come back in shape and ready to work. We have a slew of returning talent and I think they are really going to push each other this year,” said Coach Canegitta.
The men’s squad return their top finishers from a year ago as Paul Freese, Jonathan Malbrue, Michael Corso, Henry Gerbracht, and Peyton Bock look to improve on last year’s results. The team will add freshman Alexander Morano and Patrick Gallagher to add depth to the roster.
On the women’s side, the Wolf Pack return all of their runners from last season including senior Annie Hills who qualified for the NAIA National Championships and finished in 244th place. The team also boasts quality returners in Francesca Vaccaro, Raquel Derganz Baker, Denise Powell, Elizabeth Gienger, Emma Larson, Jessica Williams, and Elysia Pendezec. Incoming freshman Kennedi Henneberger and transfer Haley Milsark will boost the squad.
The Wolf Pack will open their competitive schedule, hosting the Loyola Wolf Pack Invitational at Lafreniere Park on Saturday, September 7th. The starting gun will go off at 7:50 a.m. for the women and 8:25 a.m. for the men as Loyola begins their five meet regular season slate. The Loyola Wolf Pack Invitational also will have high school varsity boys and girls, junior varsity boys and girls, and middle school races on the 7th.
