Sarah Tortorich set two school records in the 200 and with the 4x100 relay team

(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans track and field team took to the Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility for the Louisiana Classics Track Meet in Lafayette, Louisiana over the weekend.

The team set five school records in their second outdoor meet of the season.  Four of the five new records were set by Wolf Pack relay teams. This comes after the squad had set two records in their first outdoor meet of the season at the Tulane Team Challenge at Tad Gormley Stadium.

The women’s 4x100 meter relay team also collected a school record with a time of 50.85. The team of Candace Johnson, Sarah Tortorich, Alexandra Lain, and Etashat’e Hollins bested the mark of the 1999 Wolf Pack squad who posted a 55.40 time.

The men’s 4x100 meter relay team of Claude Nelson, Mario Ramirez, Piero Ramirez, and Mark Robinson ran a time of 45.02 which came in just ahead of the 45.82 second school record. The previous record was held by the 1996 team of Banks, Graham, Leahy, and Morse.

The women's 4x400 meter relay team put up a time of 4:14.55.  The team of Johnson, Tortorich, Emma Larson, and Lain bested the previous school mark of 4:15 set in 2010 at a meet in Baton Rouge.

The men's 4x400 meter relay team also took down a school record by posting a time of 3:35.46.  The team of Mario Ramirez, Piero Ramirez, Nelson, and William Maye toppled the mark of 3:38.6 which was set in 2010.

Christina Guzman also earned a school record for shot put when she threw for a distance of 9.92 meters or 32 feet, 6.5 inches in Saturday’s competition. Guzman had already beaten the school record of 28 feet one inch earlier in the season when she threw 9.8 meters at the Tulane Team Challenge.

Tortorich ran a 26.02 time in the 200 meter dash on Friday evening.  Tortorich currently holds the school record in the event with a time of 25.27 set in a 2012 race in Mobile, Alabama.

Claude Nelson also came close to setting a school record in the 200 meters by running a 23.50.  Nelson set the school record at a race in Mobile last year when he ran a time of 22.76.

The Wolf Pack will be back in action for the LSU Relays in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on March 22nd and 23rd.
