(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans will hit the road for their final regular season series of the year. The Wolf Pack will head to the Grizzly Baseball Complex in Lawrenceville, Georgia for two non-conference games against Georgia Gwinnett College. The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday, April 26th at 5:00 p.m. eastern time.
Loyola (16-37) enters the game after taking down Southern University, 7-3 on Tuesday. Cameron Retif picked up the first victory of his career as he, Daniel Posway, and Tony Asta combined to allow six hits and one earned run in the nine inning contest. Evan Turkish and Britt Pellegrin each hit home runs to help the Pack put seven runs on the board.
The Grizzlies will also be playing their last two games of the season, but they enter the series having lost four of their previous five. Georgia Gwinnett split a doubleheader with Young Harris College after falling to Southern Wesleyan and twice to Lee University. The games against Loyola will be the sixth and seventh for the Grizzlies this week.
Evan Turkish has a Wolf Pack best .314 average and has two home runs in his last three games. The senior ranks 35th in the NAIA in doubles with 16, tied with teammate Carmelo LoSauro. Pellegrin’s home run against Southern tied him for the team lead with Karson Cullins. Cullins leads Loyola with 33 RBI’s and 14 steals while Philip Cazayoux has 36 runs.
Kevin Lindsey will start the opener against Georgia Gwinnett (28-25). The freshman boasts a 3.38 ERA, four wins, and six complete games in 11 starts for Loyola. Senior Jeffrey Castille will start the team’s final game of the season. Castille has earned a team high 13 starts this season and has 34 strikeouts in 62 innings this year.
Phillip Bates leads the Grizzlies with a .387 average, 60 hits, and 53 runs. Robbie Payne paces the squad with 43 RBI’s and is tied with Christian Van Camp and Sloan Strickland for the team lead with three home runs. Antonio Allen has 27 steals.
The Grizzly pitching staff is anchored by Sheldon Connor who has a 3.05 ERA in 73.2 innings across 11 starts. He sports a 7-1 record and has three complete games. Tyler Carpenter leads the team with 63 strikeouts in 66.1 innings.
