Harold Toscano recorded a hit, but the Pack fell to Belhaven

(Jackson, Miss.) Loyola University New Orleans baseball team fell 14-0 to Belhaven University on Friday evening at Smith-Wills Stadium in the first game of a three game series between the SSAC schools.

Boomer Scarborough (4-3) pitched a complete game one hitter to lead the Blazers to victory. Harold Toscano broke up the no-hitter with a single in the third inning and Nevin Brown worked a walk for the Pack. That was all they could manage against the senior Scarborough, who was able to notch three strikeouts.

Belhaven gave Scarborough some early support as they plated three runs in the first and five more in the third inning. They added three more in both the fourth and sixth frames.

Reagan Rutledge was 2 for 5 with two runs from the leadoff spot in the order. Tyler Akins and Dominick Francia tallied three RBI’s and three runs apiece. Gabe Wilson was 3 for 4 with one run and three RBI’s. Emilio DeSilva crossed the plate three times and knocked in one run.

The Pack were undone by six errors on the defensive side. Daniel Posway (3-3) took the loss as he gave up eight hits, ten runs, four earned, and two walks across 3.1 innings. Stewart Campbell relieved him with 1.2 innings of work while giving up two hits and one run. Michael Pfister followed with .2 of an inning and was charged with three runs off two hits and one walk. Jordan Green recorded the final out.

The two teams will face off tomorrow in a doubleheader slated to begin at 1 p.m. in Jackson, Mississippi. Kevin Lindsey and Joel Buhler are slated to start for Loyola while Rayko Bellmas and Chris Good are expected to take the mound for Belhaven.
