(Thibodaux, La.) Loyola University New Orleans baseball team fell to Nicholls State University 9-0 on Tuesday evening at Ray E. Didier Field in Thibodaux, La.
The Colonels scored three runs in the third inning as Stewart Campbell (0-1) took the loss in his first career start. The freshman pitched 2.2 innings and allowed two hits and two walks while giving up three runs. Caleb Bohan replaced him and pitched 2.1 no-hit innings as he only allowed one walk. Nick Moore pitched only allowed one walk as he pitched the sixth inning. Michael Pfister was charged with two earned runs on one walk in his inning of work. Paul Roppolo pitched .1 of an inning before Conor Thurman pitched the final .2 of the game. He gave
up two hits and four unearned runs.
For the Colonels, Mike Hanchar pitched a one hitter in his four innings of work while striking out five. Cole Stapler (1-0) pitched two innings and picked up the victory. Cody Tillotson, Jason McDonald, and Marc Picciola each pitched one inning as the Colonels pitching staff was able to shut out the Pack.
Loyola (5-5) got one hit apiece from Philip Cazayoux, Jack Nicholson, Kevin Lindsey, and Nevin Brown. Cazayoux, Brandon Snow, Karson Cullins, and Daniel Pappas each reached base due to walks.
Nicholls (1-3) was able to add two runs in the seventh inning and four more in the eighth. The Colonels received three RBI’s from Philip Lyons and Tyler Duplantis at the top of their lineup. Lyons was 1 for 4 with two runs, while Duplantis had one run during his 2 for 5 day. Keith Cormier, Justin Smith, and Leo Vargas each recorded a RBI. Vargas and Justin Holt each crossed the plate twice.
The Wolf Pack will take on Blue Mountain College as their home SSAC opener this weekend. They will play a doubleheader on Friday night, starting at 4 p.m. on February 21st. They will follow up with a single game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 22nd.
