Loyola falls to Stillman in series opener

(Tuscaloosa, Al.) Loyola University New Orleans (3-1) fell 6-0 to Stillman College (1-0) in the opening game of a three game series on Friday afternoon in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Evan Turkish continued his hot start to the season by going 2 for 3 in the Wolf Pack's 6-0 loss Jeffrey Castille (1-1) gave up two runs in the first inning for the second consecutive game, and collected the loss as Loyola’s offense could only muster six hits. The Wolf Pack entered the eighth inning within striking distance, only down three runs, but Cameron Retif gave up three more runs to the Tigers.

Evan Turkish went two for three with a double for the Wolf Pack. He came into the game hitting .833 for the season.

Tyler Vails (1-0) was on the mound for Stillman College and did not give the Wolf Pack much to hit. He worked four innings while giving up only one hit, striking out four and only walking two. Joey Falletta and Kevin McNorton came in to relieve Vails throwing a combined five innings while keeping the shutout intact for the Tigers.

Trent Posey went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run for the Tigers. Fernando Tanaka had an RBI and a run while going 1 for 2 with two walks.

The two teams will face off again on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. at Stillman Park in Tuscaloosa.
