LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Three Loyola players recorded double-figure kills in the Wolfpack’s match against the University of West Alabama Tuesday night. However, it was not enough as the volleyball team fell 2-3. With this heartbreaking loss, Loyola drops to 2-2 on the season.

Leading Loyola in kills was senior Gina Gill, who finished the match with 27. Following closely behind was junior Kailey Tuthill and senior Lindsay Mullinx with 14 each. Junior Samantha Worsham registered a team-high 58 assists, while Gina Gill also led Loyola in digs with 18.

Costly hitting errors cost the Wolfpack the first set 19-25. Although the set remained close, West Alabama was in control with help from Angela Sanders and her six kills. The Lady Tigers steadily built a decent lead taking advantage of the Wolfpack’s errors. Loyola had 14 kills in 40 attempts while West Alabama also had 14 kills but in 31 attempts.

Loyola quickly rebounded and jumped out to a 4-1 lead at the beginning of the second set, but West Alabama fought their way back scoring 4 straight points. The score was extremely tight for the entire set with twelve lead changes and twelve ties. The set went down to the wire, but the Lady Tigers outlasted the Wolfpack 25-23.

The third set was also extremely tight with seven lead changes and seven ties. The match went back and forth until West Alabama called a time out with the score 12-11 Loyola. The ‘Pack then slowly pulled ahead 21-15. West Alabama’s miscommunication and Loyola’s dominating kills caused the ‘Pack to pull out the win 25-19.

Loyola seemed to control the fourth set until West Alabama slowly crept back in tying the set late 23-23. The Wolfpack took the lead 24-23 with a West Alabama service error and eventually won the set 25-23.

Loyola wasted no time jumping on top of West Alabama in the fifth and final set. The ‘Pack went up 11-7, but yet again West Alabama crept back in eventually tying it up 15-15. The Wolfpack and Lady Tigers fought back and forth until the ‘Pack finally fell 18-20.
