Loyola - Georgia Gwinnett baseball series changed due to weather

(New Orleans, La.) A two game mid-week baseball series between Loyola University New Orleans and Georgia Gwinnett has been changed due to weather concerns. The two teams will now play a doubleheader at 4 p.m. on Monday, February 24th at Segnette Field. The teams were originally scheduled to play one game on Monday starting at 6 p.m. followed by a single game on Tuesday, February 25th at 3 p.m.

The Wolf Pack (8-5) is coming off a three game sweep of Blue Mountain College over the weekend. The team received solid pitching performance from their three sophomore starters as they won 10-1, 6-1, and 3-1 over their conference rivals. Daniel Posway (2-1) allowed one run and eight hits as he earned a complete game victory in the opener. Joel Buhler (2-2) followed with a 12 strikeout performance, only allowing one run and four hits in 7.1 innings. Kevin Lindsey (3-1) capped the three game series with a nine inning complete game performance in which he allowed three hits and a single unearned run.

Georgia Gwinnett (11-3) comes into the matchup riding a five game winnings streak. This past weekend the Grizzlies dominated Voorhees University with victories of 25-1, 16-3, and 13-3 in a three game set. In the first game, 14 different players collected RBI’s and all 16 players who received an at bat scored a run.

Philip Cazayoux batted 4 for 6 on the weekend series with four runs and two RBI’s to take over the team’s batting average lead with a mark of .415. Jack Nicholson tops the Pack with nine RBI’s, five doubles, and 21 total bases. Brandon Snow leads the squad with 13 runs and four steals. After the weekend series, Loyola’s pitching staff ranks 17th in the NAIA with a team ERA of 2.25.

Kyle Norton is one of four Grizzlies with an average greater than .400, he bests the team with a .455 mark. Jake Fields leads the team with 17 runs while Zach Alvord and Christian Van Camp both have 12 RBI’s. Ty Abbott, Pat Long, and Phillip Bates each have one home run during the 2014 campaign.

Lindsey now leads the team with an ERA of 0.36 as he has only walked one player on the season. He has allowed one earned run in 25.1 innings. Buhler leads the squad with 20 strikeouts in 23.2 innings. Conor Thurman (1-0) has tallied one save.

Alex Roberts (3-0) has a 0.89 ERA and a team best 23 strikeouts this season in 20.1 innings pitched this season. Tyler Carpenter (1-0) has 22 strikeouts in a squad high 21 innings.

The two teams faced off last season, and Georgia Gwinnett won both games of a doubleheader on April 26th. The Grizzlies took the first contest 14-3 and followed that with an 8-1 win.
