(Slidell, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans Spring Invitational hosted by the Loyola men’s and women’s golf teams ended early Tuesday morning due to inclement weather.
The scores from both rounds played on Monday were established as the final scores for the tournament. The University of Houston-Victoria women’s squad captured the women’s crown with a team score of 644. Freshman Heather Shake of UHV placed first individually after shooting two over par in round one and one over in round two for a 147 through 36 holes.
The men’s team hailing from the University of Mobile earned first place overall, scoring 594 on day one of tournament action. Spring Hill College freshman Wesley Hunter secured first place individually, shooting par in round one and two under par in round two en route to a score of 142 on the day.
Four Loyola golfers finished in the top 15 individually. Freshman Alexis Hazard tied for seventh with a 163. Freshman Sarah-Anne Smurlick ended the day with a 169, good for 12th place. Sophomore Alexis Vega placed 15th to round out the top Wolf Pack women’s performances.
On the men’s side, freshman Valentin Riebesell shot a 156 to place 14th individually.
The Loyola men’s and women’s golf teams will return to action on March 24 when they travel to Emmanuel College for a two-day tournament in Hartwell, Ga.
