Loyola golfers honored at Scholar-Athlete Awards Ceremony

(New Orleans, La.) Ten members of the Loyola University New Orleans men’s and women’s golf teams were honored at the Department of Athletics and Wellness 10th Annual Scholar-Athlete Awards Ceremony on Monday, April 29.

Student-athletes were recognized for their academic excellence according to college and grade point average. Six members of the golf team achieved Silver Team status for having a grade point average between 3.5 and 3.99. Redshirt junior George Ramirez and freshman Valentin Riebesell received silver medals from the College of Business. Loyola graduate Julie Falco and freshmen John “Wes” Gilmore and Aisha Yapp were named to the Silver Team by the College of Humanities and Natural Sciences. Freshman Sarah-Anne Smurlick, a journalism major, received silver honors from the College of Social Sciences.

Four golfers were named to the Bronze Team for maintaining a grade point average between 3.0 and 3.49 during the 2013-14 season. Sophomore Alexandra Thayer was named to the Bronze Team by the College of Business. Representing the Bronze Team of the College of Humanities and Natural Sciences were freshmen Alexis Hazard and Megan Keck and sophomore Alexis Vega.
