(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team will return to action at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 6th as they take on SSAC rivals Belhaven University in The Den.
Loyola (4-15, 2-9) is coming off a 74-82 defeat to Bethel University in their last contest on February 1st. The Pack received 20 points and seven rebounds off the bench from McCall Tomeny. Daniel Kuhl added 11 points, five assists, and four steals while Aleksander Matoski chipped in 16 points. The Wolf Pack led at halftime of the contest, 36-35, but were unable to stem a second half Bethel surge.
Belhaven (10-10, 8-4) fell to William Carey 90-70 the last time out. That loss snapped a three game conference winning streak. Deon Bedford came off the pine to lead the team with 16 points and 10 rebounds against William Carey. Jordan Bedford added 15 while Curt Hall and Datodrick Pinkston combined for 22.
Tomeny is leading the Pack with 17.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Simmons has averaged 10.1 points while leading the squad with 2.84 assists per game. Daniel Kuhl has averaged 15.3 points per game over his last four contests, as he has drained six three pointers during that span. His average for the season now sits at 9.1 points, Kuhl also is 18th in NAIA Division I in free throw percentage with 84.9%.
Jordan Bedford leads the team with 15.8 points per game while Deon Bedford ranks second on the Blazers with a 10.8 average. Chris Cofield rounds out the double figure scores with a 10.3 average while leading the team in assists with 3.8 nightly. Jonathan Ratliff notches a team best 6.5 rebounds per game.
Last season, Belhaven and Loyola split their two matchups with each squad winning on their home floor. Loyola holds a 24-13 edge over Belhaven in Loyola’s “new era” of athletics. The Blazers currently sit in third place in the SSAC West standings, while the Wolf Pack is seventh in the division.
Loyola will be honoring the 2013 men’s and women’s cross country teams at halftime of the men’s basketball game. The team had a record breaking year as the 17 student-athletes combined to win 22 awards.
