(New Orleans, La.) Kyle Simmons made a three pointer after 18 seconds and Loyola University New Orleans never trailed in defeating Auburn University Montgomery 67-60 Thursday night in men’s basketball at The Den.

Simmons’ three was part of a 22-5 run to start the game as Robert Lovaglio hit three buckets in the run and Daniel Kuhl drained two triples.  Simmons had six points in the early spurt.  Loyola led by as much as 21 before a late barrage of AUM threes started chipping away at the Wolf Pack lead.  The War Hawks went seven for 18 in the second half from behind the three point arc to get the game as close as six with 3:43 remaining.

Lovaglio led four Wolf Pack players in double figures by scoring 15.  Steve Davis scored 11 while pulling down six rebounds and blocking four shots.  McCall Tomeny rejected two shots of his own while scoring 10 and grabbing six rebounds.  Simmons finished with 14 and a game high five assists.

Justin Trotter came off the Warhawk bench to lead them in scoring with 19.  Trotter hit five three pointers, four coming in the second half while Reshad Bickham scored 14 for Auburn-Montgomery.  LaRel Jackson scored 10.  Bickham and Tristen Harrell pulled down eight rebounds to lead the team.

Loyola (13-9, 7-5) jumped out to the early lead by holding Auburn Montgomery (9-10, 7-5) to only 16% shooting in the first half.  Loyola shot 51% from the field but  converted 44% from the free throw line.

With the victory, the Wolf Pack pull into a tie with the Warhawks for third place in the western division of the SSAC.  The two teams sit a game in front of Mobile and four games behind division leader Faulkner.  The two will meet again in the last regular season game for both schools on February 23.

Loyola will hit the road for their next matchup as they travel to Hattiesburg, MS for a matchup with #18 William Carey on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.   William Carey is second in the conference standings, a game behind Faulkner.
