MOBILE, Ala. - The Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team could not overcome the University of Mobile tonight, as the Wolfpack fell 75-86 to the Rams inside H. Austill Pharr Gymnasium. Loyola drops to 13-8 on the season and 5-7 in SSAC play, while Mobile jumps ahead in the standings with a 6-6 conference record, 10-12 overall.
Mobile caught fire from beyond the arc in the first half, as they connected on their first seven of nine three-pointers. The Rams finished the half 9-15 from three-point range with over half of their overall shots coming from beyond the arc. Loyola countered and kept it close by shooting 61.1% from the field and getting to the charity strike 13 times, yet trailed at half by a score of 35-45.
In the second half, the ‘Pack found themselves in a 21-point hole with 10 minutes remaining in the game. The visitors rallied over the next four minutes with a 13-0 run to pull within eight. However, the Rams eventually quelled the comeback and closed out the game 86-75.
Four Wolfpack players registered double-digit points this evening. McCall Tomeny led the team with 24 points on 8-10 shooting from the floor, 2-2 from three-point range, and 6-9 from the free throw line. The freshman also led the team with eight rebounds. Corey Gray recorded 16 points on the night, Chris Joseph scored 11, and Robert Lovaglio with 13.
Loyola finished with a 48.94 field goal percentage and converted 25 of 34 free throw attempts. The ‘Pack shot 4-13 from three-point land and out-rebounded the Rams 33-29.
Junior guard Ji Kimbrough and junior forward Antonio Hester fueled the Rams offense with 16 points each. Kimbrough shot 7-11 from the field while Hester shot 7-12. Cody Scott and Christian Salinas also recorded double figures with 12 and 13 points respectively.
The ‘Pack will return to Mobile on Saturday afternoon when they clash with Spring Hill College inside the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center at 4 p.m.
