NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team (19-9, 11-7) received one vote in this week’s NAIA Division I Top 25 poll. The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and unaffiliated groups. The final regular season Top 25 will be announced on March 7.
The vote marks the first time the Wolfpack have been acknowledged in the Top 25 polling this season. The vote puts the ‘Pack in a tie for 37th in the nation along with Union, Baker, Voorhees, Cumberlands, and Campbellsville.
Loyola ended the regular season on a season high five-game win streak and clinched their first Southern States Athletic Conference Western Division Title. Head coach Dr. Michael Giorlando also achieved his best regular season winning percentage in his eight-year career with the Wolfpack at .679.
The ‘Pack is nationally ranked in the following categories: 3rd in free throw percentage (.743), 31st in 3-pt field goal percentage (.354), 43rd in total rebound defense (34.07), and 49th in scoring offense per game (73.79).
Loyola will open SSAC Tournament play this Thursday afternoon in Rome, Georgia against the winner of the Emmanuel vs. William Carey game on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. CST inside Darlington School.
