NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans released their men’s basketball 2010-11 schedule, featuring 15 home games, four match-ups against teams in the NAIA Preseason Top 25, and four dates against NCAA Division-I opponents.
The 2010-11 season marks the first year the Wolfpack will compete in the Southern States Athletic Conference after spending 15 years in the GCAC. Although in a new league, four former conference opponents; Belhaven, Mobile, Spring Hill, and William Carey, made the move to the SSAC to join Loyola in the West Division. Faulkner University and Auburn-Montgomery round out the seven-team SSAC West.
“We are looking forward to playing our first season of competition in the Southern States Athletic Conference,” said head men’s basketball coach Dr. Michael Giorlando. “Our students, alums, and fans will enjoy watching us play 19 games in New Orleans, of which we play 15 home games at The Den on campus.”
Loyola opens up their campaign on Oct. 29 with a home game against Webber International. On Nov. 7, the ‘Pack heads across the street for their annual “Battle of Freret Street” against Tulane. The Wolfpack take on their second NCAA school when they travel to Hammond on Nov. 27 to take on Southeastern Louisiana.
December features three consecutive games against ranked opponents as Loyola hosts No. 12 Lee University (Dec. 3), No. 7 Southern Polytechnic State (Dec. 4), and No. 20 Xavier (Dec. 6). The ‘Pack heads to Thibodaux on the 8th to square off against Nicholls State and will wrap up 2010 in Houston on the 18th against St. Thomas University of Texas.
The Maroon and Gold kick off their 12-game SSAC schedule on Jan. 13 against Jesuit-rival Spring Hill College. Loyola is scheduled to play Southern Miss on Feb. 22 in Hattiesburg before heading into the SSAC Conference Tournament in March, which will be held in Rome, Ga.
