NEW ORLEANS, La. –The Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team continues its home stretch on Saturday when it hosts Auburn University at Montgomery. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. with the contest being broadcast on the SSAC website (http://www.ssacsports.com) as the conference game of the day.
The Wolfpack aims to win its second straight conference game and record its fifth SSAC win of the season. Loyola leads the all-time series by a 2-0 margin. Last season LU won in Montgomery 70-54 and 96-91 in New Orleans behind Corey Gray’s career-high 33 points.
In its most recent outing, LU defeated William Carey, 72-60, for its fourth SSAC win of the season. The win pushed Loyola to 12-7 overall and 4-6 in the Southern States Athletic Conference. AUM has lost two straight games and four of its last six to drop to 5-14 overall and 2-8 in the SSAC.
Senior Corey Gray leads the ‘Pack with 17.7 points per game. He has scored in double-digits in all but three games this season. The Warhawks are led by sophomore guard Marquez Brooks who averages 12.3 points per game.
Saturday also marks the annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Legendary college football coach Clark Shaughnessy, often credited as the “father of the T-formation” and early innovator of the modern passing game, headlines the Class of 2012, which includes baseball players Jerry Brady '62 and David Lindsey '00, and cross country standout Stephanie Legleu Crews '02. Loyola will also honor longtime athletic proponent and alumnus Derby Gisclair ’73, with the St. Sebastian Award, given annually to an individual who has exhibited outstanding efforts on behalf of Loyola athletes off the field.
The 2012 class will be announced at halftime followed by a reception in the Danna Student Center courtyard at 5:45 p.m., and the induction ceremony at 7 p.m. in the St. Charles Room.
