NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team (16-9, 8-7 SSAC) looks to carry their momentum into the weekend when they take on Auburn Montgomery (5-21, 2-14 SSAC) Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. inside the Physical Education Complex.
The Wolfpack are coming off of a big 74-70 win over division leader Belhaven, which puts them in a second place tie with Mobile, just a half game out of first place. The ‘Pack can control their own SSAC tournament fate with just three games remaining, with upcoming contests with Mobile and William Carey. The William Carey Crusaders are in fourth place at one game out.
Robert Lovaglio hopes to continue his success after recording his sixth 20+ scoring game on the season last night. The sophomore ranks fifth in the conference and 47th in the NAIA in rebounds per game with 7.47.
Loyola will go for the two game series sweep Saturday, previously defeating the Warhawks 81-55 at the Hall of Fame game in The Den. Corey Gray led the squad in scoring with 21 points. In addition, the Wolfpack utilized 10 players as the team registered a season high 29 bench points.
Cameron Cates returns after acheiving career highs against Belhaven in blocks and assists with five and six respectively. The senior has scored double-digit points in four consecutive games. Cates ranks sixth in the conference in blocks per game with 1.2.
Furthermore, Chris Joseph, who averages 6.92 points a game, has helped sparked the Wolfpack’s winning streak, as the senior has a combined 25 points in the past two games.
Auburn Montgomery is just 2-8 at home this season and they enter the match-up on a nine game losing streak. Sophomore guard Marquez Brooks leads the Warhawks with 11.85 points and 2.81 assists per game. Finally, leading the defensive side for AUM, Alex Hergott averages 5.6 rebounds and 0.76 blocks.
