Loyola men’s hoops falls to #24 SUNO

(New Orleans, La.) Southern University New Orleans had four players in double figures as the Knights defeated Loyola University New Orleans 78-70 Friday night in The Den.

Merlin Walker led SUNO (2-0) with a team high 15 points on 5 of 7 shooting from the field. Josh Major and Kevin Duke each had 14 points. Duke grabbed seven rebounds and had a team high six assists. Anthony Turner rounded out the leaders with 13 points and a team high eight boards. SUNO is ranked 24th in the NAIA preseason poll.

For Loyola (2-1), Robert Lovaglio led all scorers with 16 points. McCall Tomeny had his second double double in three games with 11 points and a game high 11 rebounds. Kyle Simmons had a career high 15 points on 4 of 10 shooting and 3 of 6 from behind the arc. Steve Davis and Daniel Kuhl each had 10 points.

Loyola returns to action on Tuesday against cross-town rival Xavier University in The Den. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m.
