(Montgomery, AL) The Southern States Athletic Conference honored seven Loyola University New Orleans basketball players with postseason awards as announced at the Tournament Banquet on Wednesday.
Robert Lovaglio was named to the All-Conference team thanks to his averages of 20 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per tilt. The Junior from Winter Park, Florida ranks ninth in NAIA Division I in total scoring and 11th in points per game.
McCall Tomeny was named to the All-Division team after being named the Week 8 player of the week. Tomeny came on late in the year as he tallied 40 points and 14 rebounds against Coastal Georgia in the SSAC tournament which were both career highs. The Sophomore from Baton Rouge, Louisiana finished the year averaging 15.5 points per game on 54.2% shooting. Tomeny ranked 12th in the NAIA in field goal percentage while also pulling down 7.1 rebounds a contest. He also finished top 50 nationally in defensive rebounds per game and total rebounds.
Mason Ibert was named to the All-Freshman team after a year that saw him put up 4.9 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. The Baton Rouge, Louisiana native started eight games in his debut season for the Wolf Pack.
Cameron Hill was honored as a Champions of Character recipient as well as being named to the All-Academic team. The Junior from Chicago, Illinois scored 5.3 points and pulled down 3.1 rebounds in his first season with Loyola.
Ben Amoss, Manuel “Rocco” Gandara, and Steve Davis were also named to the All-Academic team. Amoss, from Jefferson, Louisiana, appeared in 16 games for the Wolf Pack. A Tintillo Guaynabo, Puerto Rico native, Gandara put up 2.5 points and 2.6 rebounds per tilt. Davis averaged 5.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks nightly. The Wangi Wangi, Australia native ranked 39th in total blocks and 40th in blocks per game in NAIA Division I. Davis was also named to the Capital One Academic All-District team earlier in the season.
The Wolf Pack’s season came to an end in the quarterfinals of the SSAC tournament as the team lost to Lee University 81-63 after defeating the College of Coastal Georgia 99-72 in the play-in game.
