Loyola men and women capture first at Wolf Pack Invitational

(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans men’s and women’s cross country teams both took first place at the fifth annual Loyola Wolf Pack Invitational. The 5K race held at Lafreniere Park featured 50 collegiate women and 49 collegiate men.

The Wolf Pack women commandingly took first place with a score of 29, easily outpacing second place William Carey who checked in with 53 points. Unattached runners finished in the top two places for the women’s race but four Loyola student-athletes finished in the top eight. Annie Hills led the way coming in fifth place with a time of 21:21.36. Haley Milsark and Francesca Vaccaro raced to the finish line and were separated by only three seconds. Freshman Kennedi Henneberger finished in eighth while Denise Powell rounded out the scoring as she took home 13th place. Laura Carleton finished in the top spot in the women’s race.

The men’s team collegiate race was a tight affair as the Pack scored 53 points to squeak out the victory over William Carey and Xavier who scored 55 and 56 points respectively. Michael Corso used a finishing kick to edge out teammate Patrick Gallagher as the top Loyola finisher. Corso took fifth place with a time of 17:43.53 while Gallagher finished just over a second behind him. Sophomore Jonathan Malbrue finished in 12th place while Henry Gerbracht took 15th and Alexander Morano took 20th. The men’s team was without three runners and was only able to field five runners, but they all took home top 20 finishes to help the Pack capture the team title. Patrick Gavin, an unattached runner, took home the individual men’s crown.

Gabrielle Jennings from First Baptist finished in first place in the high school women’s race while Noah Martin from Northshore topped the men’s race. Dominican took home the girls’ team title and Jesuit topped the men’s high school squads.
