Mobile, Ala.- The Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team lost their regular season finale to the University of Mobile, 71-69 in double overtime in Pharr Gymnasium on Saturday night. The loss dropped the Wolfpack into a three way tie for third place in the final SSAC West standings. LU will receive their pairing for the conference tournament when the brackets are announced by the SSAC.

In the second overtime, Loyola took a two point lead with 50 seconds remaining on a pair of free throws by Ryan Brock. Mobile’s Brock Dockery responded with a three pointer with 30 seconds left to take a one point lead.  Brock missed a jumper on Loyola’s next possession. Dockery converted on one of two free throws to extend the Ram margin to two points. Cameron Cates missed a shot at the buzzer as Mobile secured the 71-69 victory.

Corey Gray led all scorers with 21 points and tied a career high with eight rebounds for the Wolfpack (14-13, 6-6 SSAC). Brock finished with 19 and Tommy Stangl added 12 for the visitors. Darrinton Moncrieffe had a team high 11 rebounds on the evening.

In the first overtime period, Mobile led by four points with 1:47 remaining before Brock gave the Wolfpack their first points in the extra session. Neither team would score for the next 1:46. The Rams had a chance to make it a two possession game with 12 seconds remaining, but Christian Salina missed a pair of free throws. Loyola forced the second overtime when Brock put back Stangl’s miss as time expired.

Loyola will return to action next week in the SSAC Tournament in Rome, Georgia. Official seedings and pairings will be released by the conference and can be viewed at ssacsports.com.
