NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team hosted No. 12 Lee University on Friday night at The Den and was defeated, 79-69.
Loyola (5-3) led by as much as nine points in the first half, but Lee grabbed the lead early after the break and never looked back, improving to 8-1 on the season.
Ryan Brock paced the Loyola offense with a game-high 28 points, one shy of tying his season best. Corey Gray added 17 points while Chris Joseph, Jr. scored all 10 of his points in the first half, which included three 3-pointers.
Lee was led by Jerel Blocker with 17 points. Four other Flames reached double figures in the scoring column with Larriques Cunningham scoring 16 points; Brice Sharp had 13 off the bench while Matt Stilwell and Johnny Godette scored 11 and 10 respectively.
The Wolfpack struggled on offense in the loss , making 36 percent (23 of 64) from the field and were 6 of 20 from behind the arc. At the free thrown line, Loyola finished at a 45 percent clip (17 of 38).
Lee finished at 43 percent (23 of 53) from the floor and outrebounded the ‘Pack 52-40. Cunningham had a game-high 10 rebounds.
Loyola is back in action Saturday afternoon against No. 7 Southern Polytechnic State at The Den. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
