(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans will play host to #8 William Carey University in the Hall of Fame Game at 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 25th.
The Wolf Pack (4-12, 3-6) enters the contest after having dropped a road decision to the University of Mobile on Thursday night. Mobile closed the game on a 23-6 run over the last 8:26 to turn a four point Wolf Pack lead into a 68-55 defeat. Loyola was led by 13 points from Daniel Kuhl and a career high 12 rebounds from Aleksander Matoski.
William Carey (12-2, 7-0) comes in riding a six game win streak. The Crusaders are coming off a 101-59 victory over Spring Hill on Thursday night in which six players scored in double figures. Kelvin Nixon scored 19 and Daron Bell tallied 17 as the Crusaders outscored the Badgers 61-25 after halftime.
McCall Tomeny tops the Pack with averages of 18.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Jalen Gray notches a team best 2.4 assists per game. Kyle Simmons posts 10.9 points and 2.37 assists per game. Kuhl leads the Pack with 1.1 steals per tilt.
Bell is the Crusaders top player as the senior leads the team in points (17), rebounds (6.4), assists (4.1), and steals (3.1). Nixon averages 13.4 points while Jeremiah Dunnings (12.0) and Demarcus Lewis (10.1) also manage double figures.
The Wolf Pack and the Crusaders have faced off 37 times, and Loyola has captured 16 victories. Last year, Kuhl stole the ball and scored to tie the game, but Bell made a game winning three pointer with one second remaining to lift #18 William Carey to a 62-59 home victory. Tomeny led the Pack with 15 points while Bell had 18 and Dunnings scored 19 for William Carey.
At halftime of Saturday’s game, the Wolf Pack will honor Joelle Bordelon Graham (’05, Women’s Basketball), Kiely Schork (’08, Women’s Basketball), Ed Wahden (‘62 , Baseball) and the 1946 Men’s Basketball Team with induction into the Wolf Pack Athletic Hall of Fame. A formal ceremony will follow the game in the St. Charles Room in the Danna Center on Loyola’s campus.
Saturday is also Biever Night at The Den, where the 10 hallways of Biever Hall will go up against one another in a contest for the highest attendance at the men’s and women’s tilts. The hallway represented by the most people will win a party catered by Cane’s for their residents. Biever residents are permitted to bring guests who will count toward their hallway’s total attendance.
