Loyola men matchup with #4 William Carey

Jalen Gray had a career high 21 the last time they faced off with William Carey

(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team will face #4 ranked William Carey University at 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 15th at Clinton Gymnasium.

This will be the second matchup of the season between the two teams. Last time out, the Crusaders narrowly edged Loyola 95-90 at The Den. Daniel Kuhl and Jalen Gray scored career highs with 23 and 21 respectively. Kuhl also tallied a career high nine rebounds. Kyle Simmons scored 13 points and contributed a career best 13 assists to help the Pack offense navigate the William Carey press. The Crusaders countered with 19 points from Daron Bell and 17 from Donovan Walker. Demarcus Lewis scored 18 and led the team with six rebounds and four blocks off the bench.

Loyola is coming off a 58-56 victory over Mobile in which McCall Tomeny scored 24 points and added five rebounds. Kuhl also had five boards to go with 14 points as the Pack scored six straight to take a late lead when the game was tied and held off the Rams for a win.

The Crusaders (19-2, 13-0) enter the game in the midst of a 13 game winning streak. They defeated Bethel 114-92 on Thursday evening as five players scored in double figures. Jeremiah Dunnings led the way with 26 points as he drained six three pointers. Kelvin Nixon poured in 20 as he went 9 for 10 from the floor.

Tomeny leads Loyola (5-17, 4-11) with 17.6 points and 8.4 rebounds this season. Simmons dishes out 2.7 assists to go with 10.2 points. Kuhl has upped his scoring average to 8.8 while leading the team with 1.4 steals per contest.

Bell leads William Carey with 18.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.6 steals per game, all team bests. Lewis tops the team with 0.95 blocks per outing. Four guys score in double figures as Nixon adds 13.4, Dunnings scores 13.0, and Walker nets 10.0 points per tilt.

The Wolf Pack and the Crusaders have faced off 38 times, and Loyola has captured 16 victories.
