MT VERNON, Ga. – The Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team emerged victorious Friday night, defeating conference foe Brewton Parker 74-69. The win moves the Wolfpack to 9-4 on the season, 2-3 in SSAC play, and 4-2 on the road.
Corey Gray sparked the Wolfpack’s offense scoring 23 points tonight and going 14-16 from the free throw line. Robert Lovaglio and McCall Tomeny both recorded 14 points on the team’s way to victory. Lovaglio also grabbed nine rebounds while Tomeny shot 5-8 from the floor and 1-1 from beyond the arc.
“I’m very proud of tonight’s total team effort, especially in the last five minutes. We withstood several runs and converted on key free throws late to secure the win,” stated Loyola head men’s basketball coach Dr. Michael Giorlando. “Our focus now moves to tomorrow’s game against nationally ranked Southern Poly.”
Loyola shot 45% from the field, 43% from three-point range, and converted 22 of 29 free throw attempts. The ‘Pack also forced 17 turnovers that resulted in 16 points. In addition, the Wolfpack’s bench contributed big minutes this evening. Kyle Simmons, Steve Davis, and Manuel Gandara played a combined 54 minutes, as the entire bench scored a total of 16 points.
Wendell Williams and Yan Moukoury led the Barons in scoring with 14 and 17 points respectively. Moukoury also grabbed 11 rebounds, achieving his third double double of the season.
The Wolfpack continue their conference roadtrip tomorrow, when they travel to Marietta, Georgia to battle #13 Southern Poly at 4:00 p.m. CST.
