NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team (8-4) will end their 2011 portion of the schedule tomorrow evening in an exhibition game against Southern University Baton Rouge (3-9). Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside the F.G. Clark Activity Center in Baton Rouge.
The Wolfpack knocked off #21 Xavier 95-91 in a thrilling triple overtime victory before the holiday break. Senior guard Corey Gray was later named to the Jesuit Honor Roll for his 23-point performance in the victory.
Robert Lovaglio still leads the team in points and rebounds per game with 18.58 and eight respectively. The sophomore is ranked 18th in the NAIA in total scoring with 223 points and 30th in total rebounds with 96. In addition, Cameron Cates and Steve Davis join the top-50 rankings, both now ranked 48th in total blocks with 13 each.
The Jaguars compete in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. This marks the fourth contest this season against a NCAA Division-I opponent. Southern finished 4-26 just a season ago and return eight lettermen to the team. The Jaguars have dropped four straight games, losing their last match 66-91 against New Mexico State on December 19.
The Jaguars have two players averaging double-digit points. Junior guard Derick Beltran averages 11.3 points per game and shoots 38.1% from the field. Senior forward Quinton Doggett averages 11.2 points per game and eight rebounds per game. Furthermore, Doggett has recorded 20 total blocks on the season.
