New Orleans, LA - Loyola University New Orleans women’s head coach Kellie Kennedy announced the hiring of Beck Flanagan as an assistant coach. He will serve as the Wolf Pack’s recruiting coordinator, while coaching the post players. Flanagan will also assist in all other areas of the program.
“We are very excited to have Beck join the Wolf Pack,” said Kennedy. “He brings valuable experience from the NCAA Division I level to our program. He has a great work ethic, and I know he is going to be a great addition to our staff. ”
Beck Flanagan, a native of Los Angeles, comes to Loyola from Alcorn State where he served as an assistant coach for the men’s program. Preceding that, he was the assistant coach for the women’s team for two years at NAIA powerhouse Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego.
Prior to coaching college, Flanagan was a high school coach for seven years. He was the head varsity coach of San Pasqual High School for three years, recording three consecutive 20+ win seasons. With an overall record of 65-26 and combined league record of 21-9, he led the team to 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the Avocado League, as well as the San Diego Section California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoffs, including CIF Division 1 semi-finalists (2009) and quarter-finalists in 2010 and 2011.
He also served as a physical education teacher and head varsity coach at Delphi Academy in Lake View Terrace, CA for four years. Leading his team to the Southern Section CIF playoffs in four consecutive seasons, he was named the CIF “Coach of the Year” Award for the 2005-2006 year. Flanagan led his team to three league championships and consecutive winning seasons, with an overall record of 60-35.
Flanagan earned his Bachelor of Science Degree, with Magna Cum Laude honors, from San Diego State University. He is currently still in progress of completing a Master’s Degree in health and physical education which he started at Alcorn State.
Coach Flanagan is thrilled to be a part of the women’s basketball program, and eager to get started building on last year’s success.
"I am extremely excited to be working at such a prestigious university as Loyola in the fantastic city of New Orleans,” stated Flanagan. “I couldn't ask for a better head coach to work under than Coach Kennedy. She is not only a proven winner, but more importantly, she is a wonderfully caring and great person. She has a great energy and passion that is exciting to be around! I am very thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the Wolf Pack family."
