New Orleans, La.- Loyola University New Orleans Director of Athletics and Wellness Dr. Michael Giorlando named Doug Faust as the eighth baseball coach in the school’s history today.

Faust comes to Loyola after a successful high school career in the New Orleans area. Most recently, he has been the head coach at Archbishop Shaw High School since 2007. The Eagles have made the Louisiana state playoffs in each of the last five years and were the state runner-up in 2008. His 2012 club made it to the state regionals. The Eagles won District Championships in 2008 and 2012 respectively. His Shaw based American Legion teams have also advanced to the Southeast Regional in four of the last five years. Faust has been named District Coach of the Year nine times in his career.

“After an extensive search, I am pleased that Doug Faust will be our next baseball coach. He has a proven track record of building winning programs with his student athletes succeeding on the playing field, in the classroom, and in the community. We look forward to Doug continuing that success on and off the field here at Loyola,” said Giorlando.

Faust spent 10 years at Archbishop Hannan from 1996-2005. During his tenure with the Hawks his teams made the playoffs in nine consecutive years starting in 1997. They also claimed six District titles and were the state runner-up in 1998. He coached the Hawks to six state quarter-final appearances. His Legion teams at Hannan qualified for seven Southeast Regionals. Faust left Hannan after the school moved locations following hurricane Katrina. He spent a season at Jesuit High School as an assistant coach and later served as the Head Coach at De La Salle from 2006-07.

Faust played collegiately at the University of New Orleans from 1988-90. Prior to joining the Privateers, the Chalmette native went to Delgado Community College where he earned All-Region Honors as a second baseman in 1987.

“I want to thank Dr. Giorlando, the search committee and the entire University community for the opportunity to be Loyola’s next baseball coach. We hope to build upon the rich tradition of Loyola baseball and honor those who have been a part of the Wolf Pack in the past,” stated Faust. “We look forward to meeting our current players and getting started with fall practice. We will immediately start the process of recruiting high caliber student athletes, both locally and nationally, to represent Loyola.”
