New Orleans, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans head baseball coach Doug Faust announced the team’s 2013 schedule today.
Competing in their third season in the Southern States Athletic Conference, the Wolf Pack will host 27 home games this spring, including their four game series season opener January 25-26th against Rust College. Conference play will begin on February 15th as Loyola journeys to Montgomery, Al. in a matchup against Auburn University Montgomery, with a double-header on Feb. 16th.
Loyola will play three games against Division I opponents when the Pack travels to Baton Rouge, La to face Southern University on February 26th and again on April 23rd. In between, they will head to Jackson, Miss. to take on Jackson State on March 5th.
The Pack will face off against three opponents who were ranked in the postseason NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll (June 5, 2012), including No. 4 Lee University at home on Mar. 29-30, and No. 13 Faulkner University the previous weekend on Mar. 22-23. Loyola will also play Auburn Montgomery who last ranked No. 17.
Faust will begin his first season as the Wolf Pack’s head coach since his hire in September. After a successful high school career in the New Orleans area, most recently as the head coach at Archbishop Shaw High School since 2007, Faust brings great experience and a proven track record of building winning programs. The Chalmette-native played collegiately at the University of New Orleans from 1988-90 after a short stint with Delgado Community College.
Faust will be backed by assistant coach Buddy Turnage Jr. who will primarily serve as the team’s pitching coach. Former Wolf Pack baseball players Cassedy Bass and Trey Sofio will also assist with other various aspects of the program.
