(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans baseball team will return to action on Thursday, March 6th as they take on Calumet College of St. Joseph in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. at Segnette Field.
The Wolf Pack return home after traveling to Faulkner University for a three game set against the #1 team in the NAIA this past weekend. Loyola came from behind to take game one of the series 5-4 in ten innings. Stewart Campbell pitched two innings in relief and picked up the win while Conor Thurman pitched a perfect 10th inning while collecting his second save of the season to lead the Pack to victory. Jack Nicholson collected two RBI’s in a sixth inning rally that evened the game at 4 after the Pack trailed 4-0 after the third inning. In the 10th inning, Carmelo LoSauro reached on an error and Peyton Senner recorded his first career RBI with a two out single to put Loyola in front. The Wolf Pack fell 4-0 in both halves of the doubleheader on Saturday against Faulkner.
Calumet (4-7-1) will come to Segnette Field as the last stop on an eight game road swing. The Crimson Wave went 2-1 in a three game set against Tougaloo College, they followed that with a 3-2 loss to William Carey on Monday. The team was scheduled to play against Belhaven on Tuesday and Wednesday, but weather forced the teams into a Wednesday doubleheader.
Loyola (9-9) is led by Jack Nicholson at the plate. The third baseman leads the team with a .370 average, 20 hits, five doubles, and 11 RBI’s. Brandon Snow has scored 13 runs and tops the squad with four steals
The Loyola pitching staff ranks 33rd in the NAIA with a team ERA of 3.13 and is led by a trio of sophomores. Kevin Lindsey (3-2) sports a 1.19 ERA in 30.1 innings and has only given up four earned runs this season. Joel Buhler (2-3) leads the team with 20 strikeouts in 28 innings of work. Daniel Posway (3-1) has a 2.42 ERA and 12 strikeouts.
Evan Fratini tops the Crimson Waves hitting efforts with a .286 average, three runs, five RBI’s and seven total bases. Mikyl Fleming has a team best four stolen bases and a .250 average.
Sergio Esquivia (0-2) has a 2.00 ERA in three starts. He has pitched a team high 18 innings while allowing 11 hits and 13 walks while striking out eight. Enrique Zemora (1-1) leads the team with 18 strikeouts in 11 innings, he has a 6.55 ERA this season.
