(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans (2-0) had a 10 run fourth inning to help propel them to a 16-3 victory over Rust College (0-2).
Jeffrey Castille started on the mound for the Wolf Pack and gave up a two run Home Run to Roosevelt Ford in the first inning but followed by retiring 11 of the next 12 batters. He struck out the side in the second inning and finished with six strikeouts in his four innings of work.
Rust College starter Roosevelt Ford gave up 14 earned runs and 11 hits in his four innings of work as the Wolf Pack were able to respond to the early deficit by scoring three of their own in the first inning. Ford tired in the fourth as Loyola was able to cross the plate 10 times inning.
Leftfielder Evan Turkish went two for two with three RBI’s and three runs while first baseman Tony Asta went two for two with two runs and two RBI’s.
Loyola scored 14 runs in the first inning en route to defeating Rust College 39-0 in the second game of the doubleheader.
Quintavious Carter lasted 2/3 of an inning for the Bearcats and gave up nine earned runs. Aubry Bourdine relieved him and gave up 15 earned runs and 25 runs. Every player on Loyola’s roster had at least one run and one RBI, but they were led by 3B Britt Pellegrin who hit a grand slam and went four for six while scoring four times and knocking in seven Wolf Pack players.
Daniel Posway, Cameron Retif, and Bradley Brunet combined to throw a no hitter for Loyola. Posway went three innings and struck out seven Bearcats and Retif came in and struck out the side in the fourth.
The Wolf Pack had 12 stolen bases between the two games. The two teams will be in action again tomorrow for another day of doubleheader action starting at 1 p.m. at Segnette Field.
