Loyola to take on LSUA in midweek doubleheader

Conor Thurman will make his first career start in game two of the doubleheader

(New Orleans, LA) Loyola University New Orleans returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 19th at 3:00 p.m. as they take on Louisiana State University Alexandria in a doubleheader at Segnette Field.

Loyola wrapped up a six game week with a 3-3 record as they swept Blackburn and fell in three straight to Southern Poly this past weekend. The Wolf Pack had a come from behind victory in the first game of the week as Karson Cullins ended the game with a walk off sacrifice fly. Joel Buhler pitched 6.1 innings across two games with seven strikeouts. The freshman lefthander allowed six hits but no runs and picked up the first victory of his career.

LSU-Alexandria (20-12) is on a four game winning streak having defeated Louisiana College and Blackburn once and defeated Tougaloo College twice. Prior to that streak the Generals had lost three straight, two against LSU Shreveport and the series opener against Louisiana College.

Cullins paces the Pack with a .359 average, three home runs, 27 RBI’s, with 12 steals. Philip Cazayoux has a team high 26 runs and Carmelo LoSauro has 12 doubles on the season.

Jeffrey Castille will get the ball in game one of the doubleheader. The senior from New Orleans has a 1-4 record with a 5.54 ERA so far this season and has struck out 24 in 37.1 innings. Conor Thurman will make the first start of his Wolf Pack career in game two of the doubleheader. He has eight strikeouts in 14 innings out of the bullpen so far this campaign.

James Sloan leads the Generals with a .311 average and 25 runs. Nick Jones has 20 RBI’s and four home runs to pace the LSU Alexandria squad. Jay Bell leads the team in stolen bases as he has been successful on 14 out of 15 attempts.

Stefan Porche leads LSUA with a 2.05 ERA in 11 games played. He has one start, but has saved four games. Adam Hines and Corey Thomas anchor the starting rotation with a 2.53 and 2.57 ERA respectively.
