Loyola tennis comes up short against Alcorn State

Surat scored victories at number one singles and doubles, but Wolf Pack fall

(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans men’s and women’s tennis teams fell to Alcorn State University on Saturday afternoon at City Park. The men lost 6-3 while the women fell 9-0 to the NCAA Division I school.

The men’s team (4-7) was led by a great effort from Tarun Surat and Jaron Belcher. The two freshman are doubles partners and were able to defeat Ernesto Santillan and Ivan Umnikov 8-4. Surat moved to 10-1 on the season in singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Santillan at the number one spot. Belcher jumped ahead of Umnikov at the number two spot and led 5-3 when Umnikov retired.

The women’s squad (3-8) fell 9-0 on the day. Meghan de Baroncelli won three games in the first set against Kersten Vanem, but could not secure a game in the second as she fell 6-3, 6-0 at the number one singles spot.
