(New Orleans, LA.) - The Loyola University New Orleans men’s and women’s tennis teams will compete against the University of New Orleans Privateers on friday, April 5th with first serve scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the UNO Tennis Center.
Earlier this week Loyola was scheduled to play a non-conference match against Jesuit rival Spring Hill College, but the match was cancelled due to weather conditions in New Orleans.
In Wolf Pack’s last match the men’s and women’s team both fell short of the victory against Alcorn State. The men’s team (4-7) lost 6-3 to the Braves despite a great effort from Tarun Surat and Jaron Belcher. The two freshman teamed up to defeat Ernesto Santillan and Ivan Umnikov 8-4 at the #1 doubles spot. Surat then moved to 10-1 on the season in singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Santillan in the number one singles position. Belcher jumped ahead of Umnikov at the number two spot and led 5-3 when Umnikov retired.
The women’s squad (3-8) fell 9-0 in their last time on the court against Alcorn State. Sophomore Meghan de Baroncelli won three games in the first set against Kersten Vanem, but could not secure a game in the second as she fell 6-3, 6-0 at the number one singles spot.
The UNO men’s squad currently holds an 8-8 record on the season and are coming off a 6-0 loss to LSU in their last match. The women are 5-10 on the season but hold a two game winning streak with 6-1 wins over Alcorn State and Xavier.
