Meghan de Baroncelli and the Wolf Pack take to the court against Mobile Rams

(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University of New Orleans men and women’s tennis teams will host the University of Mobile Rams Friday March 1 at 2pm in City Park.

In the last match against Mobile, the men’s team fell short despite another victory from Tarun Surat. Surat moved to 4-1 on the season with a win over the Rams’ Fernando Paiva. Jaron Belcher won the first set and battled hard in the second, but fell in the tiebreaker to Lucas Tristao of Mobile. The men lost to Mobile 8-1.

They secured a victory in the second half of a doubleheader on Saturday February 9th against Emmanuel College. The men won 8-1 by sweeping all six singles matches.

The women's team (1-4,0-3) also fell to the Rams 7-2 in their last match. Freshman Wesley Dejoie secured two critical points for the Wolf Pack in the matchup against Mobile. Dejoie earned the first singles victory of her career by defeating Cynthia Summergill in straight sets. Dejoie partnered with Chelsea Keene to secure the lone Wolf Pack doubles victory over Summergill and Mariana Velozo.

In the nightcap, Dejoie secured a point by defeating Leeanna Tucker 6-1, 6-0 of Emmanuel College. Meghan de Baroncelli helped provide the Pack with the win by defeating Christianne Tetley at the number one singles position and teaming with Frances Bonnin to win their doubles match against Tetley and Olivia Gish.

“I’m really excited to get both of the teams back out on the court. Our freshman Tarun Surat has been playing exceptionally well for the men’s team as he is currently 3-0 in conference play. Sophomore Meghan De Baroncelli has really stepped up her play this season. She’s entering this weekend coming off a win in her last match against Emmanuel,” said head coach Zubin Engineer.
