(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans men’s (0-2) and women’s (0-2) tennis teams will travel to Mobile, Alabama this weekend for matches against Spring Hill College, the University of Mobile, and Emmanuel College.
The Loyola men’s tennis team fell short of victory Wednesday against #8 ranked Xavier University of Louisiana 7-2. Last Friday, Loyola faced Belhaven and scored two points thanks to the play of freshman Tarun Surat. Surat partnered with Jaron Belcher to win the doubles match at number 1 against a tough opponent in Jefferson Nino and Ni Lison. Surat then defeated Nino in a hard fought three set victory to provide points for the Wolf Pack. The victories were the first of his collegiate career for Surat. Belhaven is ranked #12 in the NAIA.
In the women’s last match up, sophomore Meghan de Baroncelli spearheaded the Wolf Pack effort as she picked up the doubles and singles points. De Baroncelli partnered up with Frances Bonnin to defeat the Blazers McLendon and Campbell by and 8-6 score. De Baroncelli then defeated McClendon 6-0, 6-1, in their singles match. Also freshman Kanda Borgognoni earned the first victory of her Wolf Pack career by defeating Indi Mire in the #2 singles spot.
