NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University men’s (1-6) and women’s (2-6) will play their final home matches this season when they take on Tougaloo College Friday afternoon. The match will take place at 3 p.m. CT from the University of New Orleans Tennis Center.
In Loyola’s last outing, both the men’s and the women’s teams lost to nationally ranked William Carey 9-0.
The Pack’s Devon Belcher played very strong against one of the best players in the conference in Jody Classen in the no. 1 singles matchup. After dropping the first set 6-0, Belcher fought hard in the second set but eventually fell 6-2.
On the women’s side, freshman sensation Meghan deBaroncelli played very well against her opponent, Carola Orna, during the no.1 singles match. She pushed Orna to the limit and fought very hard, but lost 6-3 and 6-4.
The Wolfpack women hold 3-0 edge in the series against the Lady Bulldogs. The teams last met April 16, 2011 in Jackson, when Loyola won 5-2 as the final two matches were not completed.
On the men’s side, Loyola is 2-0 all-time against Tougaloo with the last meeting also on April 16, 2011 when the ‘Pack solidly defeated the Bulldogs 5-2 in Jackson.
