(New Orleans, La.) - The Loyola University New Orleans men’s and women’s track team is prepping to go on the road Friday for the Mississippi College Twilight Invitational at the James E. Parkman Track in Robinson-Hale Stadium in Clinton, Mississippi. Field events are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. with running events at 4:00 p.m.
In their last meet, the men and women’s track and field team set four school records during LSU Relays at the Bernie Moore Stadium. On the first day the Wolf Pack set two school records as sophomore Paul Freese ran a 16:08.61 time in the 5,000 meter race to top a previously set school record. Freese was also selected as the Southern States Athletic Conference track athlete of the week for for his performance for the week ending March 24. Christina Guzman also set a new record as she surpassed her own previously set school record in the shot put event with a 10.64 meter throw.
On the second day, the women’s 4x100 meter relay team surpassed their own school record with a time of 50.83, which was .02 seconds faster than the 50.85 time they set at the Louisiana Classics earlier this season. Elizabeth Gienger also clinched a new school record in the 3000 meter steeplechase as she finished seventh in the race scoring a time of 13:16.95 in the event.
“I’ve been pleased with our ability to break several school records this season. We are constantly striving to improve our times as we get closer to the conference meet. This weekend will be a good opportunity for us to set the bar higher,” said Loyola head coach Andy Canegitta.
During our few last appearances we were able to break a couple of records but I see a lot of potential in our team as we continue on throughout our season. I expect us to do very well this weekend and continue to improve as we grow closer to the conference meet,” said head coach Andy Canegitta.
Other schools that are scheduled to compete this weekend in the Twilight Invitational include Alcorn State, Arkansas Bapist, Concordia- Selma, Dillard, Hinds CC, Grambling, Jackson State, North Alabama, Rust, Southern-New Orleans, Southeasten Louisiana, Spring Hill, Stillman, Team DMSA, West Alabama, William Carey and Xavier Louisiana.
