(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams will compete in the Southeastern Lion Invitational this weekend in Hammond, Louisiana. The field events will start on Friday, April 19th at 10:30 a.m. while running events are slated to start at 1:30 p.m.
In their last meet, the Wolf Pack bested another three school records at the University of South Alabama Invitational. The team has now taken 14 school records so far this season.
At the USA Invite, Annie Hills broke the record she set previously in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:59.75. Hills re-set the mark she had at the Mississippi College Twilight Invitational when she put up a time of 5:00.40.
For the men, Piero Ramirez defeated the record in the 400 meter race. Ramirez ran a time of 51.64 surpassing the previous school best mark of 51.69 set by Daniel Afandar in 2010. Ramirez was also a part of the men’s 4x400 team which broke another school record. The team, which also consisted of Claude Nelson, Mario Ramirez, and Mark Robinson, put up a time of 3:34.51 which took down the mark that M. Ramirez, P. Ramirez, Nelson, and William Maye set at the Louisiana Classics meet earlier this season.
“This will the last chance for our student-athletes to post a quality time or distance before we head to the SSAC Championships next weekend. I am very excited by the progress we have made this season, and the amount of effort our kids have put into improving every weekend,” said head coach Andy Canegitta. “We are going to field a 4x100 team this weekend that I think has a great shot to post their best time of the season.”
