(New Orleans, La.) - Loyola Track returns to action this weekend as they travel to Mobile, Alabama for the University of South Alabama Jaguar Invitational Saturday. The meet will be held at the Jaguar Track athletic facility. The field events for the Jaguar Invitational will begin on Friday afternoon at 4:30pm. Saturdays events are set to begin at 10:00am.
Loyola University New Orleans track and field team is coming off a performance where they took down four school records at the Mississippi College Twilight Invitational this past Friday in Clinton, Mississippi. The team has broken a total of 14 school records this season.
“Sprinters are getting more comfortable running their event and the throwers are improving in their technique which has really shown in the results,” said head coach Andy Canegitta. “All the distance runners ran season/personal best times at the last meet. I am hoping for everyone to continue to show improvements this weekend.”
Annie Hills set a school mark in the 1500 meter run at the last meet as she posted a time of 5:00.40 in the race. She finished third out of 16 competitors, topping the previous school record of 5:03.52 by Stephanie LeGleu set in 2000. Hills was named SSAC Runner of the Week for her performance at the Mississippi College Twilight Invitational.
Hills also ran in the 800 meters and finished second with a time of 2:29.48, just behind teammate Denise Powell who posted a time of 2:27.83. Powell also set a school record besting her own time in the event.
Freshman Christina Guzman has also consistently set school records as she has improved on her distance in the shot put at every outdoor meet this season. Most recently resetting the school record at 35-0.5. She finished fourth out of 15 competitors at the event.
