(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans men’s and women’s track team will open up their outdoor season with the Southern Mississippi Invitational on Saturday, March 15th. The event at Bell Track and Field Facility is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
At the team’s opening indoor meet of the season, the Wolf Pack set four new school records. Freshman Christian Lynch set a new school mark in the 60m race at the LSU Twilight Invitational as he edged out Claude Nelson’s achievement which was set at the same meet last year. Lynch will participate in the long jump and the 4x400m relay events this weekend.
Toren Arnold established a record at the indoor meet by becoming the first Wolf Pack runner to run an 800m race at the LSU Twilight Invitational. He set the new mark at 2:03.46 and will compete at the 800m as well as race in the 4x400m relay.
After setting the school record of 50.57 in the 400m at the SSAC Championships, Piero Ramirez will join Mario Ramirez in racing that event on the track in Hattiesburg.
Emma Larson established the 800m indoor mark of 2:35.10 on the women’s side at LSU Twilight Invitational. She was barely able to beat out teammates Denise Powell (2:36.87) and Jessica Williams (2:42.80) for the honor. All three will compete in the 800m on the outdoor track Saturday.
Freshman Maddie Guidry will look to establish a pole vault record as the Pack haven’t had anybody compete in the event in the “new era” of Wolf Pack athletics.
“I am hoping to see our student-athletes compete after a very successful 2013 track conference meet last year. Every one of our sprinters did a great job last year and I’d like to see that continue this season. I want to see the distance runners continue the momentum they built up during Cross Country continue into the track year,” said head track and field coach Andy Canegitta.
