MOBILE, Ala. - The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team saw their seven-match winning streak come to an end on Tuesday night, falling 3-0 (10-25, 23-25, 23-25) to Spring Hill in SSAC action.
Gina Gill led the Wolfpack with 10 kills and 18 digs. Kailey Tuthill finished with nine kills and Sabrina Stansberry added seven.
Samantha Worsham had 28 assists and 10 digs while Amanda Oldani added 10 digs as well. Loyola (21-12, 4-2) had six aces on the night, with Kaki Johnson and Stansberry serving two each.
Spring Hill (23-2, 5-1), winners of 18-straight, set the tone early in game one with a convincing 15-point victory. The Lady Badgers hit at an astounding .636 clip, connecting on 16 of 22 attacks.
Loyola was able to regroup in the second set, using a 4-0 run to even the score at 13. The ‘Pack grabbed their first lead of the game, 21-20, on a Stansberry kill. With the score tied at 23, Spring Hill’s Yiting Cao delivered two of her match-high 21 kills to put SHC up 2-0.
In the third set, an ace by Stansberry put LU up 4-1, but the Lady Badgers quickly erased the lead to knot the score at 5. Following six more ties, Johnson gave the Maroon and Gold the lead, 15-14, on an ace. Gill pushed the lead to 20-15 on a kill, then a Lady Badger error gave the ‘Pack a six point lead. However, Spring Hill used a 6-0 run to even up the score, then finished off the Wolfpack in straight sets, taking game three 25-23.
Loyola will be back in action at The Den when they host Dillard University on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
