Loyola volleyball advances to SSAC semifinals

(Montgomery, Ala.) After advancing from pool play by defeating Brenau University in a tie breaker set earlier in the day, Loyola University New Orleans defeated Belhaven University in the SSAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday evening at the Multiplex at the Crampton Bowl.

The four set victory (18-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-18) over the Blazers moved the Wolf Pack into the semifinals.

Lauren Brand led the Pack attack with 21 kills with a hitting percentage of .294. Sabrina Stansberry added 13 kills and Katie Hamilton contributed 12 kills on the evening. Becca Burnett aided the defense with 24 digs. Sam Worsham had 49 assists and 15 digs for Loyola (28-8).

For Belhaven (26-8), Morgan Hofacker had 11 kills and 21 digs. Samantha O’Malley had 10 kills. Gabriella Zorzoli had a team high 23 digs.

After Loyola, Spring Hill and Brenau all finished pool play with 1-1 record, the Badgers advanced to the six team bracket on set winning percentage. In the tie breaker set, Loyola defeated Brenau 25-21 to advance out of pool play.

Loyola will play Lee University at 11 a.m. on Saturday with the winner advancing to the SSAC Tournament Finals. Both team that appear in the finals will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
